We work to guidance published in HSG258 "Controlling airborne contaminants at work" which is an up to date HSE guide to local exhaust ventilation. This publication states that tests must be carried out at least once every 14 months on Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems or even more regularly for some substances and processes. The Local Exhaust Ventilation test is designed to determine the efficiency and suitability of an extraction system. It requires the use of airflow/pressure instruments and visual aids such as smoke testing/dust lamp checks to gain results. Our engineers will then study these results and use their experience to decide if the system is deemed effective. They would also identify any possible problems with the system such as design flaws, defects and maintenance issues that might affect the performance of an LEV system now or in the future. Upon completion of onsite LEV testing, a thorough report will be issued to you that contains the findings of our tests. This report will also detail any actions that may be required to ensure that your system meets the required standard. Any equipment tested by us will also be labelled to indicate that a test has been carried out and also to assist in equipment identification. Once registered on our database a reminder will then be issued one month before the next examination is due in order for you/us to plan your next visit if required. |
